"When the competition is top tier, few live sporting events are more exciting and impressive to watch than the throws. It’s like watching a game-winning touchdown or buzzer-beater when one of these elite athletes wins the competition on their final heave."

- Pete Szelwach, Founder of Throws Revolution

There was once a time where those who could throw a javelin or disc the farthest were regarded as elite by the masses. It was not just an accomplishment to throw far, but a status symbol. As time passed, the evolution of throwing technique progressed and the distances grew farther, but the popularity of the sport diminished. Sports like football, basketball, and baseball became more enticing to not only spectators, but young aspiring athletes as well. These sports have become so competitive that tons of great players get turned away from playing at Division 1 schools each year. Here are the facts:

·   Fewer than 3% of male high school athletes competing in football or baseball will play at the D1 level. A mere 1% of male basketball and soccer players will play for a D1 team.

·   For female high school athletes, less than 3% will play D1 soccer. For volleyball, softball, basketball, and tennis, the chances are less than 2%.

While the chances of making it onto a D1 track & field team to throw haven’t been measured, here are some general standards that can be followed:

·   Men: Marks of 45 to 55 feet in shot put can typically meet the standards for lower-level D1 schools while marks of 55 to 65 feet meet the standards for top-tier programs. In discus, marks of 140 to 160 feet can meet standards for lower-level D1 schools while marks of 180 to 200 feet will meet standards for top-tier programs.

·   Women: Marks of 35 to 40 feet in shot put can typically meet the standards for lower-level D1 schools while marks of 45 to 50 feet meet the standards for top-tier programs. In discus, marks of 110 to 130 feet can meet standards for lower-level D1 schools while marks of 150 to 170 feet will meet standards for top-tier programs.

·   Any athlete that excels in hammer throw, weight throw, or javelin has a huge competitive advantage due to the lack of access to these events in high school.

The fact of the matter is that these marks are extremely achievable with hard work and proper technical refinement. Most athletes don’t know how much opportunity there is in throwing because of how severely overshadowed the sport is!

Throws Revolution is not only about drawing attention to throwing, but getting athletes to buy into what it is that truly makes it worth watching. People don’t often get to see this because of the lack of coaching and attention given to the sport. Throws Revolution is aiming to change that!

Our goal is to help you REVOLUTIONIZE your technique and your training plan to put you in the best position to compete at the next level. It doesn’t matter if you’re 6’8 or 5’8, throwers come in all shapes and sizes. The distances you can achieve are what matter the most. Our attention to detail and insight on what it takes to catch the eye of college coaches are a recipe for your own personal success. Take your throws to the next level and be a part of the Revolution!
